Company Description The North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC) is a statewide business development and technology transition organization of the State of North Carolina, embedded in community colleges and headquartered at Fayetteville Technical Community College. Its mission is to leverage military and other federal business opportunities to expand the economy, grow jobs, and improve quality of life across the state. NCMBC’s primary objective is to increase federal revenues for businesses in North Carolina by connecting them with defense and federal contracting opportunities.

With six major military bases, over 100 National Guard and Reserve facilities, and one of the highest concentrations of uniformed military personnel in the country, NCMBC works closely with Department of Defense commands and federal agencies worldwide. This environment offers business development professionals a unique opportunity to support North Carolina companies in accessing a significant, high-impact market.

This position may be based anywhere within the State of North Carolina and will be located at a regional community college. This is an on-site position and is not eligible for remote work.

Role Description This full-time, on-site Business Development Professional – Defense Technologies. The individual in this role will identify, track, and analyze Department of Defense and federal contracting opportunities in defense technologies, and match them with capabilities of North Carolina businesses. Day-to-day responsibilities include engaging with companies to understand their strengths, providing guidance on pursuing federal contracts, assisting with market research, and supporting proposal development efforts.

The role also involves building relationships with military installations, defense agencies, and other stakeholders, participating in outreach events, and delivering presentations or training related to defense technology opportunities. Collaboration with NCMBC colleagues, local community colleges, and regional partners is essential to strengthen the defense industrial base and increase federal revenues for businesses in the region.

Qualifications

• Experience in business development, account management, or industry outreach, preferably in defense, aerospace, or federal contracting environments.
• Strong skills in market research, opportunity analysis, and strategic planning related to defense technologies and federal acquisition.
• Ability to support companies with capture management, proposal coordination, and compliance with federal procurement processes.
• Effective relationship-building and communication skills for working with businesses, community partners, and military or federal agency representatives.
• Proficiency with productivity and collaboration tools (e.g., CRM systems, spreadsheets, presentations, virtual meeting platforms).
• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, public administration, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of Department of Defense procurement, technology transition, or innovation ecosystems is highly beneficial.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and travel within the region as needed.
