What You'll Do Lead Fleet Operations
- Oversee daily fleet operations, ensuring vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and available to meet operational needs
- Manage vehicle lifecycle activities, including acquisition, commissioning, maintenance, and replacement
- Direct fleet maintenance, parts inventory management, and welding services
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve shop efficiency, resource utilization, and cost effectiveness
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative solutions
- Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance fleet operations
- Provide leadership and supervision to Fleet Department staff, including hiring, training, performance management, and development
- Build a strong team culture focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Lead workforce planning and succession efforts
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, capital plans, and operational expenditures
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual and financial requirements
- Review, negotiate, and manage vendor contracts
- Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other regulatory requirements
- Lead safety and training programs to maintain a safe and compliant work environment
- Partner with internal departments to understand fleet needs and deliver exceptional service
- Respond to customer concerns and provide timely, effective solutions
- Prepare and present operational reports, metrics, and recommendations to leadership
- Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Engineering, Accounting, or a related field, plus:
- At least 5 years of progressive experience managing complex operations
- At least 3 years of supervisory/management experience
- Associate degree or technical certification in automotive/mechanical technology (or related field), plus:
- At least 9 years of relevant progressive experience, including supervisory responsibilities
- Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) or Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) preferred or required based on experience level
- Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance, automotive repair, and equipment management
- Experience with budgeting, procurement, and contract management
- Ability to analyze performance data and implement strategic improvements
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Exposure to shop and field environments, including noise, dust, fumes, and equipment operation
- Occasional extended hours and on-call availability may be required
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
