RN Communicable Disease Investigator
We are currently seeking an RN Communicable Disease Investigator to support critical public health efforts in our community. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse who is passionate about disease prevention, epidemiological investigations, patient education, and protecting community health.
About the RoleAs an RN Communicable Disease Investigator, you will play a key role in identifying, investigating, and helping prevent the spread of infectious diseases within the community. This position involves conducting case investigations, disease surveillance, contact tracing, patient counseling, and collaboration with healthcare providers, laboratories, and public health partners to support effective disease control measures.
Contract Details- Location: Fayetteville, NC
- Contract: 13 weeks (extension options available)
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Pay: $37/hour
- Conduct communicable disease case investigations and patient interviews
- Perform contact tracing and exposure assessments as needed
- Review, monitor, and manage disease reports within state surveillance systems
- Collect, analyze, and document epidemiological data in accordance with public health guidelines
- Provide patient education, counseling, and follow-up related to disease prevention and treatment
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, laboratories, community organizations, and public health teams
- Support outbreak investigations and emergency public health response activities
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of communicable diseases
- Assist with programs related to tuberculosis (TB), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), hepatitis, vaccine-preventable diseases, and emerging public health concerns
- Maintain confidential records and detailed case documentation
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or Compact State
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Strong communication, interviewing, documentation, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in office, clinical, and field settings
- Experience with communicable disease investigations, public health nursing, epidemiology, infection prevention, or case management preferred
- Knowledge of public health practices, disease surveillance systems, and reportable disease processes highly desirable
