Position: Registered Nurse- Halifax Behavioral Services (Charge Nurse)

Registered Nurse – Halifax Behavioral Services (Charge Nurse)

The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care as per the nursing process. The RN is expected to direct, delegate, and coordinate all nursing care provided by LPNs, CNAs, Patient Care Companions, and Unit Clerks consistent with their roles, responsibilities, and skill levels. Assignments are performed appropriately to the age and development level of the patient population being served.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients on admission and continue ongoing assessment and monitoring.
  • Identify, document, and respond to changes in patients’ conditions.
  • Develop and implement individualized teaching plans to ensure positive outcomes and timely discharge.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiate and verify physician orders as needed.
  • Utilize nursing judgment in the provision of care.
  • Evaluate patients’ and families’ responses to interventions and progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Organize patient care based on needs and available resources.
  • Advocate for patients by providing compassionate, individualized care and supporting families or significant others in the care plan.
  • Coordinate patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize outcomes.
  • Lead professional development, accountability, and leadership in nursing practice.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and uphold a positive image.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and act ethically at all times.
  • Adhere to legal and ethical guidelines in providing nursing care.
  • Execute medications according to established policies.
  • Fulfill attendance and professionalism expectations.
  • Assist with staff orientation and professional development.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Support research and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with patient safety goals and programs.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse – State of Florida license.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • Completion of general and nursing orientation.
  • Completion of unit orientation and unit-specific competency checklist.
  • Professional interpersonal communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Certifications required for specific unit/area (refer to required certification addendum).
  • Completion of annual competency‑based learning modules (CBL’s).
  • Strong communication skills with physicians, patients, families, and other disciplines.
  • Experience with assessment and monitoring of patient/family learning needs.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to changes in patients’ condition.
  • Proficiency in documenting assessment data on admission and continuously.
  • Knowledge of planning and coordinating care based on assessment of patient status and needs.
  • Ability to involve family/significant others in the plan of care as desired by the patient.
  • Demonstrated support for nursing judgment and decision making.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional knowledge development through continuing education.
