Clinical Nurse Specialist, Healthcare Nursing
Direct, supervise and coordinate the functions and activities of assigned unit(s). Responsible for overall management and coordination of the service to include fiscal resource management, human resource management, capital improvements and quality of services including enhancement of human experience (patient, families and caregivers).
Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
- Plan, organize and supervise clinical operations to provide care
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services
- Establish, in collaboration with interdisciplinary team, positive professional relationships
- Facilitate team meetings, daily rounds and communication among patients, families, interdisciplinary team members and contracting agencies
- Establish and maintain mechanisms to monitor continuing compliance with JCAHO, OSHA, and other regulatory/accrediting agencies' standards
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and infection control measures within the unit
- Establish and maintain mechanism whereby staff members are identified as being competent to safely and effectively utilize the appropriate equipment in their work area
- Assume responsibility for continuously assessing and improving performance via participation in Performance Improvement (PI) activities and Quality Control mechanisms
- Participate in selection of external sources of patient care services when such services are required
- Take necessary steps to determine the complete and accurate charging for patient services rendered as well as monitor, adjust and, where possible, correct negative expense variances
- Develop, implement and evaluate strategic plans and operations via departmental budgets, PI Plan and Management Outcome Plan, focusing on enhancing patient care services
- Collaborate with Care Coordination staff to identify barriers to patient throughput, intervene to eliminate barriers, and facilitate discharges early in the day
- Oversee, facilitate and monitor patient experience, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity through compliance with the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP)
- Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or master’s degree in other health related field preferred
- Nursing certification preferred.
- 4 South is a 35-Bed unit: all private rooms.
- Our patients include Adult and Geriatric patients with the following diagnosis or treatments:
- Neurological Disorders
- Stroke/TIA
- Gastroenterology Diagnoses and Procedures
- Genitourinary Diagnoses and Procedures
- Pre and Post Cardiac Cath Procedures
- Post Myocardial Infarction
- Post Surgery Requiring Telemetry Monitoring
- Medical/Surgical Diagnoses Requiring Drug Therapy/Adjustment
- 3 years’ clinical experience related to nursing area of management required
- 3-5 years of management or management-related experience required
Need to have at least 3-5 years of Med Surg experience highly preferred.
Required:
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
- Demonstrate leadership characteristics
- Working knowledge of budgets, staffing, Performance Improvement as well as regulatory requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to make informed decisions and handle crisis situations effectively
- Knowledgeable of the NC Nurse Practice Act
- Knowledge of age-specific considerations for patients served
- Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
- Visual acuity for observation of patients
- Long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting
- Occasional assistance with heavy lifting
- May be required to work variable shifts on occasion
- May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
