Public Health Nurse
Student Health Services provides quality health care for students enrolled at Fayetteville State University. Student Health Services promotes and maintains conditions that are conducive for healthful living, to guide and encourage students to accept health as a positive value of life, and to stimulate an interest in students to make healthy adjustments to their environment. Activities of Student Health Services are carried out with special emphasis on the promotion of the nine dimensions of wellness and good bio-psycho-social health care.
Student Health Services has the mission of serving as the students’ initial contact for the assessment of health problems or concerns. Students are provided with reasonable quality health care for minor illnesses and injuries and are referred to specialists or consultants when necessary. Each health care visit is used as an opportunity for health education.
Student Health Services provides student-centered medical and wellness services which are affordable and accessible. Utilizes a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to wellness and health care. Provides an environment of inclusion, respect, and appreciation of diversity. Primary Purpose of the PositionThe Nurse Practitioner provides advanced clinical care and medical management within Student Health Services through independent and collaborative practice under the oversight of a Medical Director and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies. The position is responsible for patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing authority, preventive care, health education, immunization compliance, emergency intervention, referral coordination, documentation, and quality clinical outcomes in an outpatient college health setting.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements- Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
- Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and “approved to practice medical acts” by the Joint Subcommittee.
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management.
- Ability to interpret laboratory findings and apply sound clinical judgment.
- Skill in patient education, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, documentation standards, and clinical technologies.
- Ability to lead quality improvement initiatives and support patient-centered healthcare delivery.
- Experience in college health, primary care, family medicine, or ambulatory care.
- Experience working in a university or public-sector healthcare environment.
- Experience using electronic medical record systems.
