Position Summary

The Department of Neurology at the University of North Carolina is seeking an accomplished senior faculty member at the Full Professor (Fixed‑Term) level to join our Memory and Cognitive Disorders Division. We are recruiting an individual with advanced expertise in Neuropsychology, cognitive disorders, and aging‑related neurological conditions, with demonstrated excellence in research, clinical care, and academic leadership. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience developing, directing, and sustaining large multidisciplinary programs, units, or centers, as well as a strong history of leading nationally funded research projects.

The ideal applicant will be a nationally recognized expert with a distinguished record of impactful scholarship, extramural funding, clinical innovation, mentorship, and contributions to fields such as neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, aging, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. The faculty member will lead and expand a robust research portfolio by serving as a principal investigator or co‑investigator on major federally or foundation‑funded studies, including projects supported by agencies such as the NIH and the Alzheimer’s Association, while also strengthening and enhancing clinical programs in cognitive assessment, memory care, and interdisciplinary dementia services.

In this role, the individual will foster collaboration across UNC’s departments, research consortia, statewide networks, and community partners, and will serve as a core contributor to multidisciplinary clinical and research teams focused on aging, dementia, and cognitive disorders. Responsibilities also include providing clinical neuropsychological assessment services for patients with cognitive aging, mild cognitive impairment, dementia, and complex neurological conditions through both in‑person and telehealth modalities, as well as teaching and supervising postdoctoral fellows, interns, residents, medical students, and other trainees across programs.

Additionally, the faculty member will engage in leadership opportunities within clinical programs, fellowship training, and center‑level or institution‑wide initiatives.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent doctorate in Psychology, Neuropsychology, Neuroscience, Public Health, or related discipline.
  • Distinguished record of peer reviewed publications and sustained extramural funding.
  • Leadership experience within academic medicine, research centers, or clinical programs.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, mentorship, and collaborative team science.
Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience
  • Experience with large multisite trials, Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers, or population‑based aging studies.
  • Expertise in digital or remote cognitive assessment and innovative neuropsychological methodologies.
  • National leadership roles (e.g., task forces, guideline development, and professional boards).
