Correctional Sergeant III (S) – Position (Grade NC09)
Reporting to the Regional Security Coordinator, this position is responsible for managing and supervising the transportation section assigned to the South Central Region office. The role ensures that transportation of offenders to facilities such as jails, courts, prisons, and medical centers is conducted safely and in compliance with all policies.
Responsibilities- Provide guidance and direction to ensure custody, security and control of offenders during transport.
- Ensure inmates are transported between various locations while maintaining their security and well‑being.
- Oversee Transportation Officers, ensuring they understand their decision‑making authority and adhere to guidelines.
- Recommend and implement standard operating procedures for regional offender transport.
- Coordinate transports to achieve timely completion within policy guidelines.
- Oversee officer activities and performance, maintaining custody, security and welfare of offenders.
- Develop schedules to meet transportation requirements and enforce operational procedures.
- Prepare departmental reports (disciplinary, use of force, incident, grievances, etc.) within designated time frames.
- Conduct daily inspections, report irregularities and initiate corrective action when necessary.
- Ensure shift coverage, enforce safety and security procedures.

Qualifications- High School or GED diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer.
- OR two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III.
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
- Must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Produce a negative drug screening result.
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of Facility Operations.
- Knowledge of Prisons’ Policy and Procedures.
- Position is designated as “Mandatory” and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
