A RESUME WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IN DETERMINING YOUR QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION.The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Bus Mechanic to perform skilled tasks in the servicing, repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive and transit equipment, and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.
Responsibilities- Perform skilled mechanical duties involving repair and maintenance of gasoline, propane and diesel powered automotive vehicles, heavy and light construction equipment and other power-driven equipment.
- Inspect, diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties on transit vehicles, and a variety of gasoline and diesel powered maintenance and construction equipment.
- Diagnose, maintain and repair electrical systems components, ignition systems, computers, alternators, high voltage power generators, starters and batteries; diagnose, maintain, repair and recondition hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose and repair front and rear drive axles, drive train components, belts, gears, chain drives and propeller shafts; replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment.
- Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials, and clutches; tune up engines by replacing ignition parts and reconditioning and adjusting carburetors, throttle body and port fuel injection systems and propane fuel systems.
- Repair and replace components including generators, distributors, relays, lights, switches, and high voltage light systems; repair, adjust and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders, master cylinders, disc pads, machine drums and rotors, hydraulic and air brakes.
- Repair and test GFI Revenue Collection equipment and all ADA equipment on vehicles.
- Retrieve, collect and distribute vehicle parts; perform on‑site service calls as requested.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repair work to light and heavy equipment and fleet.
- Prepare and maintain records of automotive maintenance and repair activities performed.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Two years of journey level experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of gasoline, propane and/or diesel powered equipment.
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in maintenance and repair of gas, propane, diesel and other types of fuel powered equipment.
RequiredLicensing & Certification: Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and airbrake endorsements and ability to maintain insurability; possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months a North Carolina State Vehicle Safety Inspector’s license.
PreferredAutomotive Service Excellence (ASE) Bus certification.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 – 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre‑employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
