Fleet Technician
The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for two Fleet Technicians to perform skilled tasks in the servicing, repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive, construction, and specialized equipment; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Perform skilled mechanical duties involving repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel powered automotive vehicles, medium and light automotive, truck, trailer and construction equipment and other power driven equipment.Inspect, diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties on fleet vehicles, and a variety of gasoline and diesel powered maintenance and construction equipment.Diagnose, maintain and repair electrical systems components, ignition systems, computers, alternators, starters and batteries; diagnose, maintain, repair and recondition hydraulic systems.Diagnose and repair front and rear drive axles, drive train components, belts, gears, chain drives and propeller shafts; replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment.Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials, and clutches; tune up engines by replacing ignition parts and reconditioning and adjusting carburetors, throttle body and port fuel injection systems and propane fuel systems.Repair and replace components including generators, distributors, relays, lights, and switches; repair, adjust and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders, master cylinders, disc pads, machine drums and rotors, hydraulic and air brakes.Identify, repair, and replace defective wiring, heating and air conditioning units and components.Retrieve, collect and distribute vehicle parts; perform on-site service calls as requested.Perform preventative maintenance and repair work to light and medium equipment.Prepare and maintain records of automotive maintenance and repair activities performed.Minimum qualifications include:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Experience:
Two years of journey level experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of gasoline, and/or diesel powered equipment (light and medium vehicles, equipment and trailers). - Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in maintenance and repair of gas, propane, diesel and other types of fuel powered equipment. - Licensing &
Certifications:
Required:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability; possession of, or ability to obtain within six months a North Carolina State Vehicle Safety & OBDII Emissions Inspector's license. Preferred:
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in Automobile & Light Truck or Medium-Heavy Truck. Forklift certification.
The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
