Job Description

The Substitute Bus Driver will provide safe and reliable transportation for students, staff, and community members to various school‑related activities. This position maintains positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, peers, and community members and provides the best possible opportunities for student development and growth.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to:

Transportation Manager and/or Transportation Assistant Manager

Direct Reports:
None – non‑supervisory position.

Compensation

This is a part‑time, on‑call, 10‑month position. The hourly pay range is $27.00 – $38.07 per hour depending on experience. The position is eligible for benefits.

Essential Functions
  • Perform state‑required inspection of the bus prior to each trip.
  • Report any vehicle malfunction or concern to the Transportation Supervisor immediately.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local laws for transporting students.
  • Transport students to and from school and/or field trips per the school‑provided route and schedule in a safe and secure manner.
  • Treat all students calmly and respectfully.
  • Record and report student incidents as they occur on the route or at designated stops.
  • Accurately record mileage per procedures defined by the supervisor.
  • Ensure maintenance and cleaning schedules are completed.
  • Check bus after each run for students and/or left‑behind items.
  • Ensure bus is properly parked and locked inside the Pinnacle gate prior to leaving.
Additional Expectations
  • Be present and engage in Pinnacle functions and organizations to build strong relationships with students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Maintain and deepen current educational learning on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
  • Valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with S&P endorsement preferred. Training available if CDL not currently held.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with diverse backgrounds.

Working Conditions

Exposure/Noise Level: Occasional exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions. Normal school bus environment with moderate to high noise level.

Mental Functions: Analyze, communicate, compare, coordinate, decide, evaluate, report, synthesize.

Physical

Activities:

Bus and office environments including computer interface; bend, drive, reach, sit, stand, stoop, walk, and heavy person‑to‑person interaction with students, parents, peers, and community members.

Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 30 pounds).

Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work‑related functions.
