Position: Guest Para educator 2026 - 2027

SALARY: $26.55 Per Hour

Position Summary

The Substitute Para educator supports student supervision and instructional activities in the absence of regular staff. Under the direction of a certificated teacher or site administrator, this position assists with student learning, behavior support, and supervision throughout the school day. Responsibilities may include working with individual students or small groups, including students with identified disabilities, in classroom and non‑classroom settings such as playgrounds, lunch areas, and crosswalks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and monitor students throughout the school day, including playground, lunch/breakfast areas, crosswalks, and transitions.
  • Support implementation of teacher‑provided lesson plans and instructional activities for individuals or small groups.
  • Assist students with basic academic skills, assignments, and classroom tasks as directed by the teacher.
  • Promote and reinforce appropriate student behavior and redirect behavior consistent with school expectations.
  • Help students resolve conflicts and problem‑solve in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Provide positive reinforcement and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment.
  • Assist with basic classroom organization, materials preparation, and room maintenance.
  • Support student needs during meals, including opening items and maintaining a clean environment.
  • Follow established protocols when assisting injured or ill students and report concerns promptly.
  • Communicate observations regarding student behavior or progress to the supervising teacher or administrator.
  • Report on safety concerns or hazards to the main office or appropriate staff.
  • Maintain professional interactions with students, staff, and families.
Other Responsibilities
  • Assist with health‑related procedures as assigned and trained.
  • Support administration of basic instructional or behavioral programs under supervision.
Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or Equivalent. OR 72 College Credits or AA Degree, OR Pass the state‑approved Para Pro Assessment (Proctored at FWPS District Office).

Additional Requirements
  • Proficient in basic spelling, math, and grammar skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Children.
Condition Of Employment
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Accept at least three assignments a month.

  • Basic understanding of diverse learning styles and strategies to support student learning.
Ability To
  • Follow safety and security procedures within daily work routines.
  • Demonstrate basic technology skills and the willingness to learn district systems.
  • Listen effectively and follow written and verbal directions with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, enthusiasm, and commitment to supporting students.
  • Work effectively with students who have diverse academic, social, and emotional needs, including challenging behaviors.
  • Foster a supportive and positive environment that promotes appropriate behavior and student success.

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards.

Physical Demands

The employee will regularly sit, stand, and walk; lift/carry items up to 35 lbs; periodically kneel, squat, push, and pull. The employee may occasionally climb stairs or ladders and must be capable of frequent lifting and carrying. The position requires the ability to push or pull a maximum force of 200 lbs.

Work Conditions

The employee works in indoor and outdoor school environments, often in the presence of traffic noise and fumes. The role may involve exposure to school‑related traffic or aggression. The noise level is usually moderate, and the position may require occasional use of a video display.
