THIS POSITION WILL BE HIRED THROUGH THE PIERCE COUNTY SKILLS CENTER, NOT BETHEL SCHOOL DISTRICT.
POSITION: Teacher – Medical Assistant (Leave Replacement - Non-Continuing)
The Temporary Medical Assistant Instructor will provide classroom and laboratory instruction for high school-aged students enrolled in the Medical Assistant program during the regular instructor's leave. The instructor will maintain continuity of instruction, support student learning, oversee hands-on skills training, and ensure students remain on track toward program competencies, industry certifications, and clinical readiness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver Medical Assistant curriculum aligned with program standards and learning objectives.
- Provide instruction in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical procedures, infection control, patient care, vital signs, pharmacology, medical office procedures, and related healthcare topics.
- Supervise and evaluate students during laboratory and skills-based activities.
- Maintain a safe and professional learning environment that follows healthcare industry standards.
- Utilize lesson plans, curriculum materials, and assessments using NHA curriculum making adjustments as necessary.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback regarding academic and skill development.
- Maintain accurate student attendance, grades, and program records.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, counselors, and Skills Center staff.
- Support student preparation for industry-recognized certifications and clinical experiences.
- Ensure compliance with district policies, Skills Center procedures, OSHA standards, and healthcare regulations.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional collaboration, and required training as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by skills center administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid and appropriate certificate and endorsements for Washington State required.
- Valid Medical Assistant, LPN or RN license.
- Hold appropriate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Certificate in the areas of Health Therapeutic Careers or Medical Assistant (V510800 or V510801) or meet requirements to obtain.
- Meet requirements of Every Student Succeeds Act.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective classroom management.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully employ effective teaching methods.
- Demonstrated desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff, students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/CHARACTERISTICS:
- Teaching experience in secondary, post-secondary, or healthcare training settings.
- Washington State Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Experience preparing students for National Health career Association (NHA) certification exams.
- Experience supervising clinical or laboratory-based instruction.
- Ability to engage students through hands-on, student-centered instruction.
- Knowledge of healthcare industry standards and best practices.
- Ability to manage a classroom and laboratory environment effectively.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Commitment to student success, safety, and career readiness.

This is a temporary, long-term substitute position covering a leave assignment. Expected duration:
August 31, 2026-November 13, 2026

Evidence of current first aid/CPR card or written statement indicating willingness to become current.
