Portfolio Underwriter – Portfolio Risk Solutions (PRS)

HSB is seeking a Portfolio Risk Solutions (PRS) Underwriter to manage, monitor, expand, and optimize HSB's portfolio products for assigned Client Companies, focusing on achieving profit and growth targets. This role supports a key strategic initiative to profitably grow the business by catalyzing new product implementations and managing performance of existing client companies. The PRS Underwriter will serve as a thought leader with clients, employing innovative solutions, data analysis, and diagnostic and predictive analytics to optimize product performance, segment pricing, and detect leading loss trends.
Responsibilities- Deploy creative data‑analysis approaches to understand and optimize product performance, including claims, engineering, expenses, exposure data, and pure premium trends.
- Develop surgical strategies for corrective action to ensure rate adequacy and appropriate price segmentation.
- Prepare and deliver powerful client presentations to communicate financial results, data analysis, rate analysis, and emerging loss trends.
- Act as the technical expert for both the Client and Client Integration Team.
- Exercise underwriting binding authority to independently make underwriting decisions that drive portfolio financial results.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.
- 5+ years of personal and commercial (P&C) insurance/reinsurance experience.
- 3+ years in underwriting preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of commercial and personal lines insurance and reinsurance coverage, concepts, principles, exposures, and processes.
- Ability to translate large data analysis into actionable decisions.
- Experience with rate development (pure premium) and detection of leading loss trends.
- Track record of achieving profit and growth targets for a book of business.
- Negotiation and conflict resolution experience.
- Creative and unique solution development.
- HSB product knowledge and familiarity with HSB preferred.
- Financial statement analysis.
- General insurance/reinsurance industry knowledge.
- Presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Portfolio analysis.
- Organizational and time‑management skills.
- Consultative and strategic negotiation skills.
- Project management skills to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and Word.
- Detail oriented and action oriented with strong analytical, actuarial, and statistical analysis skills.
- Creative problem‑solving and persuasion skills to influence change.
- Curiosity and inquisitiveness to identify issues and develop creative solutions.
