Development and Communications Manager (Federal Way, WA)
Position Summary Leads the development and implementation of IFD's fundraising program in collaboration with the Executive Director. Identifies funding opportunities; cultivates relationships with foundations, government agencies, corporations, and other funding partners; coordinates proposal development; writes grant applications and reports; and supports communications activities that advance IFD's mission. This is an exempt position reporting to the Executive Director. This position has no direct reports but carries primary responsibility for the fundraising portfolio and territory.
PRIMARYRESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising and Grant Development:
- Develop and implement strategies to secure funding from foundations, government agencies, corporations, and other funding partners
- Identify, research, and prioritize prospective funders aligned with IFD's mission and strategic priorities
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective and current funders
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with funders and other stakeholders
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for current and prospective funders
- Maintain a fundraising calendar that tracks funding opportunities, proposal deadlines, reporting requirements, and stewardship activities
- Coordinate and participate in funder meetings, presentations, site visits, and other relationship-building activities
Grant Writing and Grant Management
- Lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals, reports, letters of inquiry, and other funding applications with administrative support from the Executive Assistant
- Coordinate proposal development with programs, training, leadership, finance, and administrative staff
- Gather and synthesize program, financial, and outcome data needed for proposals and reports
- Maintain grant files and records consistent with agency and funder requirements
- Track proposal outcomes and funding history
Communications and Outreach:
- Develop and update fundraising and outreach materials, including organizational overviews, presentations, impact summaries, and other funder-facing materials
- Support the development of annual reports and other organizational publications
- Coordinate content updates for the agency website and maintain a modest social media presence that supports organizational visibility and fundraising objectives
- Identify opportunities to highlight program outcomes and organizational impact to funders and community partners
Administrative and Organizational Responsibilities:
- Assist with development and implementation of fundraising systems and processes
- Utilize artificial intelligence and other technology tools to support research, proposal development, communications, and workflow efficiency while exercising independent judgment to ensure accuracy, quality, agency or funder voice, and alignment with organizational priorities
- Maintain accurate fundraising records and utilize agency databases and tracking systems to document activity, funding outcomes, and progress
- Prepare fundraising updates for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders as requested
- Represent the agency in community meetings and professional settings as directed
- Bachelor's degree in a related field; equivalent experience may be substituted
- 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, grant development, philanthropy or a related field
- Demonstrated success identifying funding opportunities, developing competitive proposals, and securing funding from foundations, government agencies, corporations, or other funding partners
- Experience developing, managing, or maintaining grant, donor, or fundraising pipelines preferred
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines; strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools and/or willingness to learn and appropriately utilize emerging technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products; experience with donor databases, CRM systems, or grant tracking systems preferred
- Experience working in nonprofit, social service, behavioral health, child welfare, education, or related settings preferred
