The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing support to students in the school health room under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and in accordance with Washington State laws and district policies. This position supports the health, safety, and well-being of students by providing routine and emergency health care, administering medications and treatments, monitoring students with chronic health conditions, and maintaining accurate health records.

The LPN works collaboratively with the school nurse, administrators, staff, students, and families to ensure students' health needs are met so they can safely participate in their educational program.

• Provide nursing care to students according to individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), emergency care plans, physician orders, district procedures, and the direction of the supervising RN.
• Assist with special needs student in performing tube feedings, catheterization, oral suctioning and other procedures as delegated by the District Nurse.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with district policy and state regulations.
• Assess students who become ill or injured during the school day and provide appropriate first aid and nursing interventions.
• Determine when students should return to class, be sent home, or require emergency medical services.
• Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders, severe allergies, and other medically complex needs.
• Assist students with health-related procedures as authorized by healthcare providers and delegated by the supervising RN.
• Maintain accurate and confidential health records and documentation.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student illnesses, injuries, medication administration, and health concerns as appropriate.
• Collaborate with school staff regarding student health needs, accommodations, and emergency response plans.
• Ensure health room supplies, medications, and equipment are properly stocked, organized, and maintained.
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including universal precautions.
• Participate in emergency response activities and provide first aid during school emergencies.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA (as applicable), and district policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the scope of practice for an LPN.

• Current Washington State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Ability to work effectively under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Knowledge of pediatric nursing practices, medication administration, and emergency response procedures.
• Ability to assess student health concerns and respond appropriately within the LPN scope of practice.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Successful completion of Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint background checks.

• Previous experience in a school, pediatric, family practice, or community health setting.
• Experience working with children and adolescents.
• Knowledge of Washington State school health requirements and immunization regulations.
• Experience working with students with chronic medical conditions and special healthcare needs.

• Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
• Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with the supervising RN and school staff.
• Proficiency with basic computer programs and electronic student health records.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to assist students during medical emergencies.
• Ability to perform CPR and other emergency procedures when necessary.
• Frequent sitting, reaching, and use of office equipment.

Work is performed primarily in a middle school health room with frequent interaction with students. The position requires exposure to communicable illnesses, bodily fluids, and emergency situations while following standard safety precautions.

- 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, 7:30 a.m.

- 11:30 a.m. & Wednesday, 9:30 a.m.

- 2:30 p.m.
