The Clinical Role
This isn't traditional ED fast-track coverage, nor is it a conventional inpatient rounding assignment.
You'll care for patients placed into hospital observation status following Emergency Department evaluation, providing continued assessment, diagnostic evaluation, treatment, monitoring, and disposition planning.
The current observation model is designed around patients who require additional care and clinical decision-making but may not require full inpatient admission. Public recruiting for the service describes presentations spanning medical, cardiac, neurologic, surgical and lower-risk acute conditions.
For a Hospital Medicine APP, that creates a familiar clinical proposition:
- Continued evaluation of acute adult patients
- Observation management
- Diagnostic review and clinical decision-making
- Treatment and reassessment
- Approximately 5–6 admissions per day
- Disposition planning
- Coordination with physicians, specialists, nursing and support teams
- Epic documentation
The service operates within a physician + APP model, and current public recruiting confirms collaboration with emergency physicians, consulting specialists, nursing and case management, with emergency-physician support available onsite around the clock.
