Bakery​/Deli Clerk

Based in Portland, Oregon, Fred Meyer merged with The Kroger Company in 1998 and continues to serve customers in over 120 stores throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska.

• Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
• Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products that match orders and correct portion sizes.
• Recommend deli or bakery items to ensure customers receive desired products.
• Use all bakery equipment – refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens – according to company guidelines.
• Prepare foods according to temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
• Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipe using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Accurately prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise ingredients.
• Check product quality and freshness, review sell‑by dates, and take appropriate action.
• Properly use kitchen equipment such as stoves, computerized scales, fryers, steamers, and robot butchers.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Understand store layout and locate products when requested.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
• Gain and maintain product knowledge to answer questions and make suggestions.
• Maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions, noting any discrepancies.
• Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create an environment that welcomes customers and answers product questions.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Reinforce safety programs, comply with procedures, identify and report unsafe conditions.
• Perform preventive maintenance of equipment and notify managers of needed repairs.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
