Based in Portland, Oregon, Fred Meyer merged with The Kroger Company in 1998 and continues to serve customers in over 120 stores throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska.
- Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
- Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
- Provide customers with fresh products that match orders and correct portion sizes.
- Recommend deli or bakery items to ensure customers receive desired products.
- Use all bakery equipment – refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens – according to company guidelines.
- Prepare foods according to temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
- Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipe using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Accurately prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise ingredients.
- Check product quality and freshness, review sell‑by dates, and take appropriate action.
- Properly use kitchen equipment such as stoves, computerized scales, fryers, steamers, and robot butchers.
- Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
- Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Understand store layout and locate products when requested.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
- Gain and maintain product knowledge to answer questions and make suggestions.
- Maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions, noting any discrepancies.
- Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
- Promote trust and respect among associates.
- Create an environment that welcomes customers and answers product questions.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Reinforce safety programs, comply with procedures, identify and report unsafe conditions.
- Perform preventive maintenance of equipment and notify managers of needed repairs.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Work cooperatively in a high‑paced, sometimes stressful environment.
- Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Follow directions and seek assistance as needed to resolve issues.

- Ability to obtain current food handlers permit once employed.
- Bakery or Deli experience is helpful.
- Retail experience.
