Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for a Software Engineering Intern in Pullman, Washington. The internship focuses on cybersecurity support for development, testing, and validation of secure software while collaborating with engineering teams. Interns will work part‑time during the academic year and full‑time during the summer.
Typical day- Support SEL software development processes.
- Verify software meets requirements.
- Implement firmware and software design.
- Provide support to engineering staff as needed.
- Follow engineering quality assurance procedures.
- Continuously identify, measure, and improve processes.
- Follow and apply SEL values, principles of operation, and world‑class manufacturing principles.
- Embrace the mindset: understand, create, simplify.
- Current student pursuing a degree in computer science or a related field with at least two years of technical coursework completed.
- Programming experience using scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, Perl, or Ruby.
- Ability to execute and document defined testing procedures.
- Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- At least one year of cybersecurity coursework or certifications.
- Programming experience in C#, C++, Java, or an equivalent object‑oriented language.
- Practical knowledge of developing Microsoft Windows applications.
- Knowledge of computer networking and vulnerability scanning tools.
- Experience with revision control and source code management systems such as Git, Mercurial, SVN, and Rational Clear Case.
SEL designs, manufactures, and supports products and systems that protect, monitor, control, and automate electric power systems. LocationThe position is located in Pullman, Washington. Pullman offers an exceptional quality of life, small‑town charm, and easy access to outdoor adventures in nearby mountains, rivers, and forests. The area also provides excellent schools and universities.
Compensation and BenefitsPay Range: $24.25 – $33.00 per hour, based on internship role and year in school. Interns may transition to full‑time roles at SEL after graduation.
