Frontline Applicant Tracking – Federal Way Public Schools

Position Summary This position performs a wide variety of duties in the support, coordination, planning, and evaluation of transportation operations, including overseeing the operation of the computer-based pupil transportation routing and scheduling system. This position is directly responsible for the maintenance of order and student safety on district buses and at bus stops in a manner that supports the enforcement of state regulations and district policies and procedures.

This position assists with the management of the video camera program, school bus driver/bus assistant training programs, the evaluation process of departmental personnel, and the evaluation of hazardous walking conditions. This person has primary responsibility for student ridership reports for state funding. This position provides leadership and support to transportation employees, district, and community partners, and oversees the transportation operation in the absence of the director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and operate a transportation computer routing and scheduling system
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of bus runs, bus routes, and bus stops for peak safety and efficiency
  • Manage and prepare OSPI annual ridership reports. Act as liaison with OSPI and the State Auditing Office on matters related to ridership.
  • Interpret data requirements and plan for implementation of new procedures including training staff and monitoring data integrity.
  • Brief drivers and post current information regarding special requirements, road conditions, routing, and out‑of‑the‑ordinary conditions.
  • Help make recommendations for school and transportation operations during inclement weather periods.
  • Maintain strong public relations through proactive problem solving; maintain confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with district webmaster to provide information for on‑line forms in regards to transportation. Monitor published data for accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with transportation staff, student support services staff, instructional technology staff and schools for smooth flow of information from various database products including student management system and Versatran. Provide technical assistance to staff and others in the development, documentation and training of programs and procedures for data synthesis in the various products.
  • Communicate concerns regarding students' inappropriate behavior on buses or at the bus stops to parents, appropriate school personnel, the director of transportation, school security, and the executive director of student support services as needed.
  • Promote positive communication between the transportation department and all customers, and address customer concerns.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the database of school bus write‑up reports that are used for progressive discipline of bus riders; prepare reports, analyze incidents, and make recommendations to director of transportation or driver training department as needed.
  • Provide information for use in budget development.
  • Facilitate district planning, community goals, and objectives relative to individual building needs.
  • Continuously evaluate programs and make appropriate recommendations for changes to insure a safe operation.
  • Assist in the annual evaluation process of all transportation employees and in discipline decisions.
  • Enforce safe driving rules and policies ensuring compliance with local and state regulation and district policy.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
Other Responsibilities
  • Oversee the transportation operation in the absence of the director.
  • Provide support and reinforcement necessary to establish and maintain good staff morale.
  • Attend driver‑parent meetings when necessary.
  • Assist in the development and management of the school bus driver/assistant training, in‑service, and re‑training programs.
  • Assist in the general office routine.
Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in a major transportation system.
  • One (1) year supervisory experience.
