School Age Child Care Program Teacher

Location:

Fenton Area Public Schools (3 positions available), Tomek Elementary, State Road Elementary, and North Road Elementary

Hours:

Monday-Tuesday, and Thursday-Friday;
Tentative Schedule 6:15-8:45 AM- 3:00-6:15 PM, Wednesday 6:15-8:45 am and 2:15-6:15 pm

Effective Date: 2026/2027 School Year

Job Summary:

The School-Age Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for children ages 5-12 in a before- and after-school program. This role includes supervising children, planning and leading enrichment activities, supporting homework time, and promoting positive social interactions. The School-Age Teacher ensures active supervision at all times and follows all Michigan Child Care Licensing (LARA) regulations, as well as program policies and procedures.

The position requires strong communication with families and staff, a focus on safety and behavior guidance, and the ability to create a fun, structured environment that meets the needs of school-age children.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent; training or experience in child development, CDA, or higher education in early childhood education preferred.

• Work positively and effectively with both adults and children.

• Take initiative to understand and work with a variety of children with diverse interests, abilities, and ages.

• Knowledge of child development and planning developmentally appropriate activities.

• Flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills.

• All necessary forms must be in your office file before you begin (criminal background check, DHS clearance, MiLEAP eligibility, Consent & Disclosure Form, Screening Statement, Handbook Acknowledgement, and all required training by licensing)

Job Duties:

• Reliable attendance and punctuality

• Take children outside daily throughout all seasons.

• Ability to follow the guidelines listed in the staff handbook and State of Michigan licensing rules for childcare centers.

• Actively interact positively with children, staff members, and parents, with dignity and respect at all times.

• Maintain order through positive group management techniques and strategies.

• Maintain a clean, organized area. Care for materials and equipment properly.

• Attend all staff meetings and professional development

• Stay updated on school communications via office mailbox, email, and weekly SMORE newsletter.

• Complete all professional development requirements according to deadlines.

• Plan and implement child-led interest activities.

• Assists with health and safety protocols to keep children from harm and is supervised at all times

• Perform any duties as asked by the Site Administrator or Program Administrator.

Salary:
Starting at $14 per hour, based on experience and credentials
