Media Technician

AVAILABLE: 2026-27 School Year

QUALIFICATIONS:

The rate of pay is $15.27-$17.85 per hour, 29 hours a week. The media tech is responsible for operating the school library. A copy of the job description and additional details follow on the next page.

MINIMUM

High School Diploma.

Successful experience working with children.

Ability to work effectively with students and staff. Capable of assisting classroom teachers in preparing students for 21st century library activities.

Demonstrates knowledge of modern office methods and equipment, including productivity tools (i.e. Google Docs, Microsoft Office, etc.) and programs.

Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.

Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with the Board policies and established procedures.

Ability to work independently.

Must have excellent organizational skills and willingness to participate in required training.

Must have good communication skills and ability to work harmoniously with staff, students, and parents.

Knowledge of computers and library related equipment and software, including the automated library system.

PREFERRED:

Advanced media and technology training.

Practical experience.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Under the general supervision of the building principal and District Media Specialist, the Media Technician will provide media services for students, teaching staff, and building level administration in a helpful, positive, congenial, and flexible manner. This individual assists in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning media center environment that promotes, supports, and encourages literacy through the execution of the District Media Scope and Sequence.

SPECIFIC

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Apply established circulation, organization, and storage procedures for all media center resources and equipment.

Process, organize, move, barcode, and inventory print and non-print materials and equipment using the library software systems in order to document losses and/or maintain availability and relevance of materials.

Process notices of overdue, missing, or damaged materials.

Orient students and staff to library procedures and resources (online catalog, research, use of computers, classification and organization systems, care of materials, etc.).

Present skills to and assist students in a variety of Media Center programs and projects.

Maintain the library collection by assisting the District Media Specialist in selecting and ordering library books and other necessary and/or relevant materials.

Support teachers with materials for curriculum delivery, including digital resources.

Assist students in search strategies and digital research.

Play an active role working collaboratively with teaching staff and school/district leadership to make the necessary instructional and cultural shifts.

Support digital citizenship.

Maintain Media Center in a clean, organized, and inviting manner (bulletin boards, displays, etc.)

Encourages the use of Media Center resources to promote literacy.

Work collaboratively with District Media Specialist and other Media Technicians to share materials, ideas, and information.

Attend curriculum, technology, and library personnel meetings as needed.

Monitors student behavior and reports inappropriate actions to appropriate staff/personnel.

Other duties as assigned.
