Pathologist Assistant

The Pathologist Assistant, under general supervision of a pathologist, independently performs or assists in accessioning, dissection, evisceration, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of surgical specimens.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Receives, verifies, accession es, and properly handles surgical pathology specimens according to laboratory procedures.

Performs gross examination, dissection, and documentation of surgical specimens, including tissue selection for histologic evaluation, under pathologist supervision.

Provides intraoperative pathology support, including frozen section preparation and coordination with operating room staff.

Assists with histology laboratory functions such as tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide preparation within competency guidelines.

Manages specimen storage, retention, disposal, recordkeeping, and timely processing while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Serves as a key communication liaison among pathology, physicians, nurses, laboratory teams, and other clinical departments regarding specimen-related matters.

Ensures quality, safety, and operational excellence through adherence to QA/QC standards, equipment maintenance, training, continuing education, and process improvement activities.

80 hours biweekly

Compensation

Hourly wage range: $48.08-$57.69. Please note that final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications and internal equity considerations.

Education/Special

Skills:

Associate degree in science, laboratory science, medical laboratory technology, or a related scientific field.

Previous experience in surgical pathology, histology, anatomic pathology, or a clinical laboratory setting is preferred. Appropriate on-the-job training may be provided based on the individual's education and prior laboratory experience.

Successful completion of the pre-employment health screening process required.

Must be able to attend the work site as scheduled.

Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both orally and in writing.
