Location: STEAM Academy at MSB High School (Grades 9‑12)

Status: 10‑Month Academic Calendar Certified Staff Exempt

Role Summary

The High School Music Teacher is responsible for directing a variety of performance ensembles and teaching elective music courses. You will oversee the development of student musicianship through rigorous rehearsal, music theory instruction, and public performance. You will act as a visible leader within the school and community, coordinating concerts, competitions, and festivals that showcase the talent of our 10,000‑student district.

  • Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in K‑12 Music (Vocal, Instrumental, or General).
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education;
    Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Master of the Podium: You have proven experience conducting large vocal ensembles and possess the "presence" to lead and inspire high school students.
  • Performance Strategist: You have the organizational skills to manage the logistics of a major music program, including uniforms, instrument inventory, and travel for competitions.
  • Collaborative Spirit: You enjoy working with fellow Fine Arts staff and building administrators to integrate music into the broader life of the school (pep assemblies, graduations, and musical productions).
Your Impact (Key Duties)
  • Ensemble Excellence: Direct core ensembles (Band, Choir, or Orchestra) with a focus on technical proficiency, artistic expression, and group cohesion.
  • Curriculum Delivery: Teach elective courses such as Music Theory, Piano/Guitar Lab, or Music Appreciation, making the study of music accessible to all students.
  • Performance Programming: Select and prepare a diverse repertoire for seasonal concerts, ensuring students explore various genres, historical periods, and cultures.
  • Competitive Success: Prepare students and ensembles for district and state‑level festivals (MSHSAA), solo and small ensemble contests, and honor groups.
  • Community Ambassador: Represent the district through public performances, building strong relationships with parents, alumni, and local arts organizations.
  • Mentorship: Provide individualized instruction and college/career counseling for students pursuing music beyond high school.
