Job Description & How to Apply Below

Skylight is a digital consultancy using design and technology to help government agencies deliver better public services. We’re at the forefront of a civic movement to reinvent how all levels of government serve families, patients, and many others in today's digital world.

If you want to play a part in driving this critical movement forward, we’d love for you to join our growing team of public interest technologists. The work we do matters.

About the job

Skylight is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to own and scale our financial operations in a government contracting environment. This role is critical to ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational insight as we grow. The ideal candidate brings deep Gov Con experience, hands‑on expertise with Unanet, and the ability to partner closely with leadership, operations, and project teams.

You will oversee day‑to‑day finance functions while also providing strategic financial guidance to support decision‑making across the company.

What you’ll do
  • Manage financial operations in compliance with federal contracting requirements, including FAR, CAS, and DCAA audit readiness.
  • Oversee contract financial setup and ongoing management, including funding, burn rates, ceilings, and cost controls across active programs.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reporting packages, including forecasts, variance analyses, and insights for executive and delivery leadership.
  • Partner with delivery and leadership teams to support annual budgeting and rolling forecast cycles, ensuring alignment with program and business objectives.
  • Serve as the primary administrator and subject‑matter expert for Unanet, ensuring accurate project setup, labor costing, billing, and revenue recognition; training staff on best practices; and continuously improving workflows and reporting to support compliance and scalability.
  • Lead the preparation, review, and submission of all customer invoices, ensuring accuracy, contractual compliance, and timely delivery.
  • Design, implement, and maintain finance processes, internal controls, and best practices to support operational consistency and risk mitigation.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and financial transparency across finance operations and reporting.
  • Act as a trusted financial partner to delivery and leadership, translating financial data into actionable insights to inform operational and strategic decision‑making.
  • Support core accounting activities within Unanet, including general ledger management, reconciliations, and ensuring the integrity and consistency of financial data across projects and accounts.
What we're looking for
  • Progressive experience supporting financial operations in a government contracting environment
  • Deep working knowledge of FAR compliance, indirect rate structures, cost accounting standards, and DCAA audit requirements
  • Demonstrated hands‑on expertise with Unanet, including project setup, billing, and financial reporting
  • Proven experience overseeing billing, revenue recognition, and project accounting across government contracts
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, including financial modeling and complex data analysis
  • Exceptional attention to detail paired with strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable insights for non‑finance stakeholders
  • A mindset and work approach that align with Skylight’s core values
  • Ability to travel for work from time to time
Nice‑to‑have qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting growth‑stage or scaling organizations
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA or comparable advanced education or certification
  • Experience supporting cross‑functional projects or teams
  • Prior experience working in the civic tech space
  • Experience working in a remote‑team environment

Don’t meet 100% of the criteria but think you can do the job? We’d love to chat anyway! We’re on a mission to build diverse teams, and studies have shown that women and marginalized folks are less likely to apply to jobs if they don’t check every box.
