Join our Team and be part of our Growth! The City of Fernley has a vacancy in the Planning Department for a Planning Director
Work involves developing and managing current and long-range planning programs, and advising the Chief Development Officer, Planning Commission, and City Council in matters pertaining to physical, social, economic, transportation, and environmental planning and zoning issues. Other functions include administration and enforcement of the zoning code, customer service and permit review, community outreach programs, and general administration. Incumbent is also responsible for directing and supervising professional, technical, and clerical staff, to ensure proper maintenance of planning documents and maps, and compliance with City zoning ordinances.
Incumbent must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in all phases of work. Incumbent must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the community, elected officials, city staff, and other agencies

QualificationsEducation and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning, regional planning, environmental studies, architecture, or a related field. A master's degree is desirable.
Experience:
Ten years of increasingly responsible professional urban planning experience in local government including project management experience.
License or Certificate:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
- American Institute of Certified Planners Certification (AICP) is required
