Job Description
Job Summary: Operate machinery designed to perform a specific portion of the production process and assist Operators II and III with packing and end-of-line work as needed. Overtime may be required; no travel is required.
Shift:
- 6am–2:30pm with overtime until 6pm
- 10pm–6:30am (training on dayshift for ~3 weeks before transitioning to nights)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate machinery in the assigned department to complete the work orders.
- Receive and review work orders; communicate material requirements to other departments.
- Monitor machine operation to ensure adherence to standard work within the department.
- Perform hazard-based tasks on machinery (lockout/tagout) and conduct daily equipment inspections.
- Stack, sort, and bundle material per standard work; perform occasional housekeeping tasks (5S) and participate in SQDC.
- Record data of manufactured material for quality control and improvement functions.
- Aim to achieve production goals while complying with safety requirements.
- Assist with quality checks to verify proper parameters are met.
- Assist Operators II & III in packaging and end-of-line work as needed.
- Utilize COS tools and training to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Highly motivated with a good work ethic and attention to detail.
- Safe working practices and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to follow company policies, procedures, and processes.
- Good communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Basic computer, mathematics, and problem-solving skills; ability to use a calculator.
- Ability to use measuring devices (gauges, tapes, rulers).
- Team player who can follow instructions from management and peers.
- Ability to learn and operate new equipment.
- Willingness to understand, participate in, and support COS initiatives with a lean mindset.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
- Fast-paced manufacturing environment with exposure to ambient/outdoor temperatures and dust; exposure to moving machinery and pinch points; and increased noise levels.
- Hours vary based on shift schedule and business volume.
- Overtime and weekend hours may be required.
- Heavy, stationary machinery on the manufacturing floor; use of radio, calculator, measuring devices, hand tools, and computer (Shop Floor and ERP).
- Must be comfortable with strong smells and heat.
