ResponsibilitiesThe Safety and Health Intern will help perform routine safety inspections and observations, assist with incident, near‑miss, and hazard data collection, support basic safety data analysis and reporting, and perform a safety‑focused research or improvement project, gathering data and presenting findings to the safety and plant leadership teams. They will also familiarize themselves with MSHA safety regulations and standards, including MSHA General Industry requirements such as Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Confined Space, Hazard Communication, PPE, and Emergency Action Plans.
- Learn the process flow of cement manufacturing and applicable MSHA safety regulations and standards (MSHA General Industry, Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Confined Space, Hazard Communication, PPE)
- Conduct safety inspections and observations, generate reports, and assist with initiating corrective actions
- Support incident, near‑miss, and hazard reporting, including basic root‑cause analysis and documentation
- Assist with job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and safe work procedure reviews
- Perform a safety‑related research or improvement project, gathering data and presenting findings to the safety and plant leadership teams
- Track and analyze safety performance metrics (injury rates, near‑miss trends, corrective action status, training completion)
- Manage organization, archives, and recordkeeping for safety and training compliance (MSHA logs, permits, inspections, training records)
Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Desired Class Level(s)Senior.
Salary LevelPaid — $25.00 per hour plus monthly housing stipend if needed.
Duration12 weeks, 40 hours per week.
Qualifications- Strong interpersonal skills, self‑starter and inquisitive by nature
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel
- Solid reasoning, analytical, and communication skills
- Excellent work ethic
- Multitasking ability
