Field Supervisor (FS) is the frontline supervisory leader responsible for providing direct, real-time operational leadership and oversight of daily EMS field activities within a high-volume interfacility transport (IFT) and 911 response system. Assigned to a specific geographic zone and shift, the FS ensures safe, efficient, and protocol‑compliant operations through consistent deployment, staffing, and unit utilization while maintaining compliance with clinical, operational, and documentation standards.

Core

Duties & Responsibilities Shift Operations
  • Arrive on time in proper uniform and check in with dispatch and outgoing supervisor at start of shift
  • Conduct crew briefing covering safety priorities, system status, and shift expectations
  • Verify all assigned units are operational, stocked, and compliant before units go in service
  • Maintain continuous awareness of CAD and unit status throughout the shift
  • Initiate redeployments to maintain system coverage and response time compliance
  • Complete supervisor shift report and provide detailed handoff to incoming supervisor at end of shift
Crew Supervision & Accountability
  • Directly supervise all crew members assigned to your owned NW units during your shift
  • Provide real‑time support to crews on high‑acuity, complex, or extended calls
  • Address crew fatigue, safety concerns, and professional conduct issues as they arise
  • Deliver verbal counseling and document all performance issues in accordance with policy
  • Conduct field observations and report findings to the zone Operations Supervisor
  • Complete annual performance reviews for all crew members on your assigned units
Clinical & Quality Oversight
  • Ensure adherence to clinical protocols on all calls within your zone and shift
  • Provide guidance and support during complex patient care situations in the field
  • Review PCRs (Patient Care Reports) for accuracy, completeness, and protocol compliance
  • Identify and support training needs and report clinical deficiencies to the Operations Supervisor
System & KPI Management
  • Monitor 911 response times throughout the shift and take corrective action on delays
  • Track IFT on‑time performance and ensure crews return to service promptly after hospital transfers
  • Monitor hospital wall times and intervene when turnaround times exceed acceptable limits
  • Report KPI trends and system performance issues to the Operations Supervisor Fleet & Equipment
    • Confirm all assigned units are stocked, operational, and compliant with infection control standards
    • Address equipment failures immediately and coordinate maintenance or replacement
    • Ensure units are restocked and prepared for the next shift before end‑of‑shift handoff
    Requirements
    • Provide strong, professional leadership and direction to field personnel
    • Enforce policies, standards, and disciplinary processes fairly and consistently
    • Maintain accountability for decisions, outcomes, and operational performance
    • Lead effectively during critical incidents and high‑stress situations
    • Apply strong knowledge of EMS operations, deployment strategies, and system status management
    • Manage staffing efficiency, overtime impact, and workforce utilization
    • Make timely, sound decisions while balancing multiple competing priorities
    • Analyze operational issues and implement practical solutions
    • Communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively across all organizational levels
    • De‑escalate conflicts, address employee concerns, and resolve interpersonal issues
    • Coach, mentor, and develop field staff through feedback and corrective action
    • Ensure compliance with clinical standards, documentation, safety, and regulatory requirements
    • Review reports and ePCRs for accuracy, completeness, and medical necessity
    • Maintain attention to detail in all documentation and reporting
    • Demonstrate emotional intelligence, professionalism, and resilience under pressure
    • Build trust, credibility, and positive working relationships with staff and partners
    • Maintain a strong customer service mindset toward patients, staff, and stakeholders
    • Utilize CAD, ePCR, scheduling, and workforce management systems effectively
    • Maintain basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
