Material & Production Planner

The Material & Production Planner is responsible for supporting and coordinating procurement, inventory control, production planning, and quality management activities to ensure efficient manufacturing operations and on-time delivery of products. This role serves as a key link between suppliers, engineering, production, program management, sales, and quality to maintain material availability, optimize inventory, support production schedules, and drive supplier and internal quality performance.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position requires strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work cross-functionally to support operational goals, cost objectives, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is Non-Exempt salaried position that reports to the COO.

Duties/Responsibilities

Procurement / Purchasing

Run and review reports to identify part shortages and material gaps impacting production schedules.

Create purchase orders (POs), maintain open purchase order status, and follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.

Monitor supplier performance related to delivery, responsiveness, quality, and cost.

Maintain and update the Approved Supplier List (ASL) in accordance with company and quality requirements.

Issue, track, manage, and follow through on Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) as needed.

Support development and execution of competitive part cost strategies by evaluating supplier pricing, market conditions, and internal volume requirements/forecasts.

Analyze part costs across suppliers and recommend sourcing strategies that align with cost, quality, and delivery objectives.

Assist Engineering with sourcing new parts, components, and suppliers for new and existing products.

Manage part lifecycle status, identify obsolescence risks, and coordinate mitigation plans to minimize supply disruption.

Build and maintain effective supplier relationships to support business continuity and performance expectations.

Inventory Management

Maintain inventory organization, accuracy, and traceability, including lot tracking and inventory location control.

Monitor stock levels of raw materials, components, and consumables, and coordinate replenishment as required.

Ensure consumables and production support materials are restocked and available for operations.

Monitor and take action on shelf-life-limited materials and parts to prevent expired inventory from entering production.

Perform receiving activities including PO receiving inspection, verification of received materials, and part marking/identification as required.

Support inventory accuracy through routine audits, reconciliations, and adherence to inventory control procedures.

Assist in maintaining clean, organized, and compliant stockroom/inventory areas.

Production Planning

Coordinate with Program Management and Sales to align production schedules with sales order priorities, customer requirements, and delivery commitments.

Review demand, material availability, and production capacity to support planning and scheduling decisions.

Flow down work order priorities to manufacturing and assembly teams based on schedule requirements and material readiness.

Coordinate kit picking activities to support assembly production and manufacturing work orders.

Identify and manage kit shortages, develop action plans, and coordinate with procurement, inventory, and production teams to resolve shortages in a timely manner.

Support schedule updates and communicate changes, risks, and constraints to relevant stakeholders.

Help ensure production jobs are properly staged with the materials, documentation, and priorities needed for execution.
