Local Driver

Lynden Transport is looking for a Local Driver who drives tractor and trailer combination or straight truck to transport cargo freight. May pick‑up, load, unload, and deliver cargo freight.

• Drives vehicle to specified destination in accordance with company procedures and governmental regulations.
• Applies knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds and in difficult situations (heavy traffic, inclement weather or tight loading/unloading dock areas).
• Maintains telephone or radio contact with dispatcher to receive pick‑up or delivery instructions.
• Loads and unloads trailer, individually or with assistance of dock workers, using cargo straps, tarps, ropes, chains, lumber, etc.; may perform lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying of freight.
• Hooks and unhooks trailers from tractor or from converter dollies.
• Inspects tractor or truck for defects before, during and after trips; submits reports indicating truck or tractor condition; notes condition of various equipment items such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and water; installs and removes tire chains as required by weather conditions.
• Ensures that all shipping documents (manifest, bills of lading, delivery receipts, hazardous material placarding, etc.) required to move the shipment are available and complete.
• Performs all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures; complies with all Federal, State, and local regulations for safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle; maintains records as required (driver logs, vehicle inspections, reports); reports any and all safety hazards; reports accidents or on‑the‑job injury immediately to the on‑duty supervisor.

Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).

• Must have current, valid Commercial Drivers License (Class
  
  A), with hazardous materials endorsement and may be required to obtain a doubles endorsement.

• Applicant must be at least 21 years of age with a good driving record.
• Must be willing to work in the warehouse and yard with minimal driving time to start.

• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods.
• Must be able to reach overhead.
• Must be able to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls for extended periods.
• Must be able to stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch, or crawl to examine equipment and cargo.
• Must be able to install and remove 60‑pound tire chains as required by weather conditions.
• Must be able to push or pull freight up to 4,000 pounds with the use of a pallet jack.
• May be required to reposition (push or pull) a 3,500‑pound dolly on uneven surfaces while hooking a set of trailers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee also may work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
