POSITION SUMMARY

Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opportunity for a Senior / Lead Commercial Sourcing Advisor. The primary responsibility is to support the development and management of commercial initiatives for the Midstream business unit. This includes helping formalize contracts with various service and material providers and supporting the development and management of commercial initiatives.

The individual will minimize risk in supply chain processes to support operating components’ service requirements, including recognizing appropriate sourcing strategies, developing awareness of associated operating risks, and qualifying contractors to ensure appropriate criteria are adequately addressed.

The successful candidate should be a self‑starter, able to conduct market analysis, develop bid packages, analyze proposals using a total cost of ownership methodology, establish strategic business relationships with key suppliers, and validate cost savings. The ideal candidate would thrive in a dynamic environment where needs are both planned and unplanned.

The Midstream segment, which this role supports primarily, includes the MPLX Crude Oil and Product Logistics (COPL) organization within MPLX, MPC’s sponsored master limited partnership. MPLX transports, stores, distributes, and markets crude oil and refined products via refining logistics assets, pipelines, terminals, towboats, and barges; gathers, processes, and transports natural gas; and gathers, transports, fractionates, stores, and markets natural gas liquids.

  • Grade(s) 10‑11 — This position is part of a job family with multiple levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a posted level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop contracting strategies to establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers and ensure service, commercial terms, and strategy optimization. Lead the development and implementation of regional/local sourcing strategies and decision summaries based on sourcing events and negotiations outcomes.
  • Lead the bid‑package process from development through purchase‑order execution and align stakeholder and Supply Chain requirements, scope of work, assumptions, and clarifications. Participate in vendor pre‑bid meetings and site walks, leading the commercial aspects and setting expectations outlined in the request for proposal.
  • Review purchase requisitions for completeness and approval accuracy; solicit and evaluate supplier quotations, conduct price analysis, and maintain thorough procurement documentation.
  • Procure materials, equipment, and services in alignment with Midstream Supply Chain strategies, preferred supplier frameworks, and business objectives, ensuring seamless execution from order entry through payment.
  • Expedite purchase orders to support on‑time delivery while collaborating closely with stakeholders to anticipate and meet business needs. Build strong relationships with suppliers and internally to drive effective outcomes.
  • Resolve purchase‑order and invoice discrepancies in partnership with Accounts Payable, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure accurate goods receipt and timely payment.
  • Lead the preparation and negotiation of terms and conditions related to service and/or supply agreements. Manage related rate sheets and ensure cost competitiveness across vendor categories within the enterprise and across the industry.
  • Run benchmark studies, gather and analyze data, and make recommendations. Perform root‑cause analysis related to supply challenges or disruptions. Analyze and interpret data for use in decision‑making and actions in support of business strategy, including total cost of ownership and must‑cost modeling.
  • Serve in an advisory role to maintain contract compliance and minimize risk in support of key stakeholders and business units. Act as liaison between legal and key stakeholders, maintain master agreements, and initiate contract amendments to frame agreements on behalf of supported business unit. Coach business‑unit contract owners to drive performance and compliance of contracts.
  • Foster communication internally, externally, and between different operational functions. Serve as first‑line point of contact for concerns related to operating needs, concerns, and Supply Chain support.
