The Preschool Principal provides instructional leadership and operational oversight for the preschool program to ensure high-quality educational experiences, student safety, and full compliance with Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) and Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) regulations. This position is responsible for supervising staff, maintaining licensing and Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) requirements, supporting students and families, and fostering a positive early childhood learning environment aligned to district goals and Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards.

Instructional Leadership
  • Provide leadership and supervision for all preschool instructional programs and staff.
  • Oversee implementation of approved preschool curriculum programs, including High Scope and Heggerty.
  • Ensure instructional practices align with Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards.
  • Support continuous improvement of teaching practices through coaching, professional development, and evaluation.
  • Promote inclusive practices and developmentally appropriate instruction for all learners.
Program Operations & Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable Ohio Administrative Code requirements, including Chapters 5101:2-12, 5101:2-17, and 3301-37.
  • Serve as the program administrator/director responsible for daily operations and supervision of the preschool program.
  • Maintain an active Ohio Professional Registry (OPR) profile and ensure all required staff documentation is current.
  • Ensure compliance with all staff orientation, background check, and professional development requirements.
  • Complete required state and federal licensing rules training as prescribed by the department.
  • Coordinate licensing visits, audits, and required program documentation.
Step Up to Quality (SUTQ)
  • Lead and maintain the preschool program's Step Up to Quality rating.
  • Coordinate evidence collection, self-assessment, and improvement planning related to SUTQ requirements.
  • Ensure implementation of quality improvement practices necessary to maintain high program standards.
Student Services
  • Coordinate and participate in ETR and IEP meetings as appropriate.
  • Ensure students are served in the least restrictive environment with appropriate support and services.
  • Maintain required student records, including medical, dental, immunization, and emergency documentation.
  • Oversee medication administration procedures and compliance with health and safety regulations.
Family & Community Engagement
  • Foster positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Communicate regularly with families through newsletters, conferences, meetings, and educational events.
  • Address parent concerns and support family engagement initiatives.
Safety & Supervision
  • Maintain and implement emergency management and safety procedures.
  • Ensure completion of required fire, lockdown, and safety drills.
  • Supervise preschool facilities and environments to ensure safe and developmentally appropriate conditions.
  • Monitor student supervision procedures and transportation practices as applicable.
Qualifications:

Required:
  • Valid Ohio educator license appropriate for teaching or administering in a preschool setting pursuant to Section 3319.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Completion of at least four college-level courses in child development or early childhood education from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, Special Education, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years successful teaching experience in early childhood education or special education.
  • Minimum of three years of administrative, leadership, or supervisory experience.
  • Active Ohio Professional Registry (OPR) profile.
  • Ability to complete required ODJFS rules review course and all required licensing trainings.
  • Knowledge of Ohio preschool licensing regulations, special education procedures, and Step Up to Quality requirements.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
  • Valid Ohio administrative licensure.
  • Experience leading a public preschool program.
  • Experience with Step Up to Quality processes and maintaining high ratings.
  • Experience coordinating special education preschool services and compliance.
  • Knowledge of curriculum implementation, instructional coaching, and early childhood assessment systems.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to move throughout preschool classrooms, offices, playgrounds, and school facilities.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and sitting.
  • Ability to supervise and actively engage with young children in classroom and outdoor settings.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency or safety situations.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and technology devices.
Working Conditions:
