The Intervention Specialist (Mild to Moderate) is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with identified disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role focuses on delivering targeted interventions, supporting access to the general education curriculum, and promoting student growth in academic, social, and behavioral areas. The Intervention Specialist collaborates closely with general education teachers, families, and support staff to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and to foster student success in the least restrictive environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal laws
- Provide direct and indirect instruction to students with mild to moderate disabilities in inclusive and/or small group settings
- Differentiate and modify curriculum, instruction, and assessments to meet diverse student needs
- Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction accordingly
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support co-teaching, accommodations, and inclusive practices
- Serve as case manager for assigned students, including scheduling and facilitating IEP meetings
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports, evaluation data, and compliance records
- Implement behavior intervention plans and support positive student behavior
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs
- Coordinate with related service providers (e.g., speech, occupational therapy, counseling)
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, problem-solving teams, and professional development
- Ensure adherence to district policies, procedures, and special education compliance requirements
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field
- Valid state licensure as an Intervention Specialist (Mild to Moderate)
- Knowledge of special education law, including IDEA and IEP development
- Understanding of differentiated instruction and intervention strategies
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
- Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities
- Experience with co-teaching and inclusive classroom practices
- Training in behavior intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques
- Familiarity with progress monitoring tools and data-driven instruction
- Master's degree in Special Education or related field
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and school environment
- Ability to lift, carry, and move instructional materials and equipment (up to 25 pounds)
- May require assisting students with mobility or positioning
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and sitting on the floor
- Ability to respond quickly to student needs, including behavioral situations
- Work is performed in a variety of educational settings, including general education classrooms, resource rooms, and small group environments
- Regular collaboration with teachers, administrators, and support staff
- Frequent interaction with students with diverse learning and behavioral needs
- May include participation in meetings, conferences, and professional development outside the regular school day
- Exposure to varying noise levels and activity depending on instructional setting
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all special education compliance requirements
