Elementary Music Teacher

Position Summary

The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive and

engaging music education program for students in grades K-5. The teacher fosters

creativity, musical skill development, artistic expression, and an appreciation for diverse

musical traditions. Through singing, movement, instruments, music literacy, and

performance opportunities, the Elementary Music Teacher helps students develop a

lifelong understanding and love of music while supporting their academic, social, and

emotional growth.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based music instruction aligned with state

and district curriculum.

• Teach fundamental music concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, form,

expression, movement, and music literacy.

• Provide instruction through singing, classroom instruments, movement activities,

listening experiences, and creative music-making.

• Foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment that

encourages participation and creativity.

• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of

students.

• Assess student learning and provide meaningful feedback on musical growth and

achievement.

• Integrate technology and multimedia resources into music instruction when

appropriate.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers to support cross-curricular learning and arts

integration opportunities.

• Prepare students for school performances, concerts, assemblies, and community

events.

• Coordinate and direct elementary music performances and special programs.

• Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, performances,

and program opportunities.

• Maintain music equipment, instruments, instructional materials, and performance

resources.

• Participate in district, building, and department meetings and professional

development activities.

• Support district-wide Fine Arts initiatives and collaborate with music educators

across the district.

• Promote student confidence, creativity, teamwork, and appreciation for the arts

through meaningful musical experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field.

• Valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for K-5 Music Education.

• Demonstrated knowledge of child development and elementary music pedagogy.

• Proficiency in vocal and instrumental instruction appropriate for elementary

learners.

• Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and

community members.

• Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment where all students can

succeed.

• Experience with Orff, Kodály, Music Learning Theory, Dalcroze, or other

elementary music methodologies preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience directing elementary performances and programs.

• Experience integrating technology into music instruction.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across grade levels and content areas.

• Commitment to fostering creativity, innovation, and artistic excellence within a

comprehensive K-12 Fine Arts program.
