Network Engineer, Systems Engineer, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing: Infrastructure & Operations
Communications Domain Architect (Lead Network Engineer)
The Communications Domain Architect (Lead Network Engineer) supports the Infrastructure and Operations teams within the Midstream IT organization, with responsibility for the design, reliability, and evolution of network services. This role requires deep expertise in large-scale network architecture, with a focus on availability, security, and operational stability.
This individual serves as the senior technical lead and subject matter expert for the Communications domain, setting design standards, leading solution development, and driving improvements across existing environments. The role requires both strategic design expertise and hands-on execution, including implementing and validating changes in production. The ideal candidate has strong experience in industrial networking, segmentation, and secure connectivity, and thrives in environments where uptime, safety, and disciplined change management are critical.
Key ResponsibilitiesArchitecture & Design
- Develop High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD) for enterprise and OT network environments
- Design large-scale network topologies across WAN, datacenter, cloud, and hybrid environments
- Lead design of advanced routing, failover, and resiliency strategies aligned to uptime and safety requirements
- Establish and maintain network architecture standards, patterns, and reference designs
- Provide technical direction and review for new solutions and brownfield improvements
Implementation & Configuration
- Deploy and configure routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and related network services
- Lead hands-on execution of enterprise and network builds, upgrades, and remediation efforts
- Validate implementations against design standards and operational requirements
- Support Cisco-first environments with multi-vendor exposure (e.g., Palo Alto, Check Point, Fortinet, etc.)
- Troubleshoot complex network issues across routing, switching, and security domains
Monitoring & Optimization
- Monitor network performance, latency, and throughput across critical OT and enterprise environments
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and reliability risks
- Tune routing behavior and network configurations to optimize performance and stability
- Perform capacity planning and scaling analysis to support growth and lifecycle management
- Drive continuous improvement in network observability, alerting, and telemetry
Security & Compliance
- Implement network segmentation, VPNs, and secure access architectures aligned to cybersecurity requirements
- Apply zero trust principles and enterprise security standards across network designs and implementations
- Partner with Cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards
- Support incident response activities and remediation of network-related vulnerabilities
Operationalization
- Develop and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and support documentation for network services
- Define and enable support models, including clear ownership and escalation paths
- Lead operational handoff for new solutions, including knowledge transfer and documentation
- Provide hypercare support for major deployments and changes to ensure stability
- Drive improvements in operational processes, change management, and service reliability
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of enterprise network engineering experience, including design, implementation, and support of large-scale environments
- Deep expertise in core networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, OSI model, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)
- Strong experience designing enterprise WAN and datacenter networks, including highly available and resilient architectures
- Proven ability to design, build, and support large-scale, production-critical network environments
- Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, including the ability to diagnose complex, multi-domain issues
- Experience with network automation, including scripting (Python, Power Shell, or similar) and exposure to automation frameworks
- Experience with SD-WAN or modern WAN architectures
- Ability to translate high-level designs into implementable solutions and guide others in execution
Preferred Qualifications
- CCNP (minimum), CCIE strongly preferred
- Experience with SD-WAN platforms and modern WAN architectures
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools and practices (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)
- Exposure to cellular and wireless networking technologies, including LTE/5G and eSIM-based connectivity
- Understanding of cloud networking concepts (Azure or similar), including hybrid connectivity patterns
- Exposure to OT or industrial networking environments (SCADA, control systems, etc.) is a plus
