Position Summary
The Petrochemical Scheduler manages inventories, production, and logistics (rail, truck, barge, and pipeline) to meet forecasts and supports the coordination of trading, refining, and transportation/distribution functions. The role works closely with Trading, Refining, VCO, Product Quality, and T&L to optimize olefin and aromatic balances and manage the Gulf Coast Aromatics scheduling desk, with opportunities to support additional olefins and aromatics scheduling initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Nominate and schedule pipeline, waterborne, truck, rail, and delivery movements using proprietary and third‑party scheduling systems.
- Monitor inventories and shipping schedules daily to ensure supply meets demand.
- Communicate and verify planned movements with all stakeholders including traders, optimizers, internal and external counterparts, customers, suppliers, producers, marketers, terminals, vessels, and pipelines.
- Provide timely and accurate inventory position information to Trading, Pricing, Marketing, Trucking, and Supervision.
- Respond to unexpected events by making contingency arrangements to minimize disruption of supply.
- Initiate and coordinate movements independently through Marathon’s distribution channels based on a given plan.
- Identify and communicate constraints and begin to identify optimization opportunities on the desk.
- Gain knowledge of transportation costs associated with the movements on the desk.
- Learn the regional supply picture.
Scheduler:
Bachelor’s degree required or five (5) years of related experience in lieu; two (2) or more years of industry‑related experience required.
Senior Scheduler:
Bachelor’s degree required or five (5) years of related experience in lieu; four (4) or more years of industry‑related experience required.
