The Renewables Trading Director is a leadership role accountable for generating value from renewable fuels and environmental markets including ethanol, biodiesel, and associated credit mechanisms (RINs, LCFS, CFP, etc.). The position leads trading, compliance strategy, and market development while ensuring regulatory integrity and alignment with MPC’s decarbonization objectives. Success is measured by margin capture, credit optimization, compliance cost minimization, and strategic positioning in emerging low‑carbon value pools.
Key Responsibilities- Creates key strategies to purchase renewable products from producers to supply product terminals.
- Leads a team of traders responsible for purchasing domestic ethanol production while optimizing coast to coast physical trading operations.
- Supports international opportunities to export and/or import product to optimize supply and maximize corporate value.
- Identifies opportunities to provide market solutions and sell product into the market leveraging MPC assets and positions.
- Collaborates with the traders to ensure low-cost supply while managing overall inventory positions.
- Recommends and manages trading strategies that maximize short- and long-term profitability while achieving financial targets.
- Develops creative and innovative strategies for growth and negotiates, manages, and monetizes approved strategies.
- Provides oversight of all regulatory (RINs, LCFS, Carbon, Cap & Trade) books to ensure the company commercially complies with all state and federal requirements.
- Authorizes market long/short positions within the regulatory programs within exposure limits.
- Develops and maintains strong commercial relationships with all trading counter parties.
- Leverages existing books of business and trade to provide enhanced value generation across all books of trade.
- Manages corporate exposure of and provides oversight for a PnL.
- Ensures the organization is up to date on overall product market (U.S. and international) and individual supply/demand balances.
- Lead a team of Trading Operations Analysts focused on developing and measuring KPIs and delivering deeper market insights on supply and demand, trade flows, and competitive market data.
- Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, or related discipline required.
- Ten (10) years of experience in a Commercial role is required with a minimum of 3 years Trading experience
