This role in summary
The Electrician function specializes in the installation, repairs and maintenance of electrical components, wiring and electrical equipment in all machinery and facilities. This role utilizes tools and testing equipment to complete electrical work and typically works on the most complex aspects of projects.
Your responsibilities will include
- Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
- Figures layout, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.
- Installs, connects, tests, and sustains electrical systems for a variety of purposes, including climate control, security, and communications.
- Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using tools, such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
- Pulls wiring through conduit, assisted by electrician helper.
- Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
- Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment, using hand tools.
- Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads.
- Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
- Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
- May repair faulty equipment or systems.
- May cut and weld steel structural members, using flame-cutting and welding equipment.
- May be required to hold a license.
Minimum requirements
Education:
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Certifications/Licenses:
Journeyman Industrial Electrician card from a verified 8,000-hour program.
Ability to obtain a PIT License
Work Experience:
In lieu of a Journeyman card, candidates must have at least 5 years of documented experience as an Industrial Electrician.
Technical/Product Knowledge:
* Proficiency with PLC Machine Controls.

- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move heavier items with assistance.
- Ability to remain on feet for extended periods (8-12 hours) and navigate a large-scale manufacturing floor. This includes frequent walking, climbing stairs or ladders, and standing on concrete surfaces.
- Frequent requirement to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to access electrical panels, wiring, and machinery in confined spaces.
- High level of precision and finger dexterity required for handling small components, intricate wiring, and operating specialized hand and power tools.
