Job Summary

The primary focus of child protective services is safety for the child. The Intake Report Screener extracts detailed information from reporters to create accurate depictions of abuse or neglect concerns. This role is the first point of contact for reporters, requiring empathy and strong communication skills.

Job Duties

• Take all reports of child abuse and neglect (phone calls and walk-ins)
• Extract information from reporters by asking relevant questions
• Create clear and detailed intake reports based on allegations
• Handle all phone calls for the Children Services Unit
• Use technology such as cell phones and computers to complete duties
• Gather and verify client paperwork
• Determine client eligibility for supportive services
• Document client information per local and state policies
• Ensure case records contain accurate written reports
• Display strong verbal and written communication skills
• Manage time and multitask effectively
• Gather evidence and prepare documents for judicial action
• Prepare to provide expert testimony in court as needed
• Process PRC applications and determine eligibility
• Display strong organization and time management skills
• Prepare written documents such as court complaints
• Meet state mandates and deadlines
• Serve as on‑call worker for 7‑day intervals on a rotating basis (additional pay)

Wage

• Starting at $20.45 per hour

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services‑related studies
• OR bachelor’s degree in any field and at least two years of employment in a human services occupation
• OR associate’s degree in human services‑related studies
• OR at least five years of employment in a human services‑related occupation

* For continued employment, individuals meeting options 2–4 above must obtain a related bachelor’s degree within five years of employment.

* Liability for determining “human services‑related studies” or occupation rests with the agency.

• Complete at least 90 hours of in‑service training during the first year and 36 hours annually thereafter as required by Ohio Revised Code .
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under county insurance policy.
• Must live within 45 minutes of the agency.

Unusual Working Conditions This position requires determining imminent risk of harm for children or adults. Exposure to potential violence, environmental hazards, and contagious disease is part of the role.
