Senior Platforms Engineer - Edge

Position Summary

An exciting career awaits you  Senior Platforms Engineer for the Refining IT Edge team designs, evolves, and governs secure, scalable connected platforms that power industrial sensing, edge intelligence, and mission‑critical field deployments. In this role you will lead the architecture of LoRaWAN and industrial IoT platforms spanning edge devices, wireless networks, gateways, and cloud services, working closely with firmware, RF, hardware, cloud, and operations teams.

• Lead the architecture, development, and lifecycle management of scalable LoRaWAN and industrial IoT platforms across edge, network, and cloud environments.
• Design and improve telemetry ingestion, device management, fleet operations, and edge‑to‑cloud data pipelines, scripting and automation using Python and JSON‑based configurations.
• Establish platform standards for reliability, observability, security, and maintainability.
• Drive secure device provisioning, OTA update strategies, and remote operations practices for large‑scale deployments.
• Partner with firmware, RF, hardware, cloud, and operations teams to define technical direction, resolve integration challenges, and improve end‑to‑end performance.
• Own technical roadmap decisions, architecture patterns, and operational best practices for mission‑critical infrastructure.
• Support incident response, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement for field‑deployed systems.
• Mentor engineers and influence cross‑functional teams through clear communication and execution.
• Lead infrastructure strategy, modernization, stakeholder alignment, and balancing technical, operational, and business priorities.
• Identify performance bottlenecks, conduct root cause analysis, and implement solutions to enhance platform performance and resource utilization.
• Manage platform and system technical support activities, including escalation handling and advanced tuning.
• Participate in disaster system recovery planning and testing.
• Build and maintain comprehensive knowledge base including troubleshooting guides, configuration documentation, and best practices.

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum 5+years of platforms engineering experience, including:

• Hands‑on LoRaWAN architecture, gateways, network servers, device provisioning, and fleet‑scale operations.
• Onboarding LoRaWAN sensors, verifying payload translation, and resolving decoding issues in production.
• Telemetry ingestion, event‑driven systems, MQTT or similar messaging patterns, and observability.
• Building and operating scalable industrial IoT platforms in production.
• Distributed systems, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, and edge‑to‑cloud integration.
• Industrial protocols such as Modbus, OPC‑UA, CAN bus, or PLC‑integrated systems.
• Secure remote device management, OTA update workflows, and certificate‑based security controls.
• Leading cross‑functional engineering initiatives and influencing architecture across firmware, hardware, cloud, and operations teams.
• Experience in large‑scale industrial deployments in energy, utilities, manufacturing, logistics, agriculture or smart infrastructure is preferred.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field (or equivalent).
• 5+years of relevant platform engineering experience.

• Public and private LoRaWAN deployments, RF troubleshooting, and performance optimization across large device fleets.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Kafka, time‑series data platforms and cloud IoT services such as AWS IoT or Azure IoT.
• Automation or integration work using Python and JSON.
• Knowledge of low‑power edge constraints, intermittent connectivity patterns, store‑and‑forward architectures, and offline‑first design.
• Experience operating in regulated or complex environments (security, compliance, uptime requirements).
