Overview
GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector. This position will serve as a Construction Inspector reporting to the Project Supervisor or Resident Project Representative on the project. The ideal candidate will perform construction observation and inspection on a variety of Transportation projects throughout Indiana. The candidate will interact with clients, contractors, and the public in meetings and other communication forms.
Will provide documentation of construction progress through daily reports, status reports, and other forms of data reporting.
- Inspect and document construction progress and quality of work.
- Read and interpret construction plans, drawings and other technical documents.
- Inspect work of contractors and document project progress and quality of work.
- Ability to measure and calculate quantities of materials.
- Perform material testing.
- Review plans and specifications for field observations; conduct tests and investigations; collect soil, asphalt, and concrete samples; prepare samples for testing; document results; and communicate findings with staff, contractors, and clients.
- Document field activities, observations, and testing results on projects.
- Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes, and standards.
- Use specialized equipment to prepare analyses, reports and technical drawings.
- Communicate field and laboratory testing results with staff, contractors, and clients.
- Requires knowledge of transportation construction and quality control practices.
- Must be knowledgeable in the Indiana Department of Transportation, Indianapolis Department of Public Works or other governmental agency specifications, standards and inspection requirements.

- Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather conditions.
- Ability to lift heavy objects such as testing equipment and materials samples.
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain and navigate steps, stairs and ladders.
- Ability to work in hazardous environments and use required Personal Protective Equipment. Environment will include dust, noise, tripping, and overhead hazards.

- Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites.
- Conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used by engineering and technical personnel in determining physical properties of construction materials.
- Collect soil, asphalt, and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary report.
- Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results on projects.
- Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes, and standards.
- Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports and/or technical drawings.
- Communication of field and laboratory testing results with staff, contractors, and clients.
- Begins to lead tasks
- Can work independently or lead crews when necessary.
- Possesses effective oral and written communication skills; interacts well with other staff, communicates effectively with clients, field representatives, able to motivate others, ability to function positively in a team environment, able to keep teams working harmoniously.
