JOB DESCRIPTION ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL QUALIFICATIONS- Elementary Administration and Supervision or Administrative License
- Master’s Degree or higher required
- Three years of experience in school administration
- Ten years of education experience
To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.
TERMS220 days, twelve-month year. Salary established annually by the Board
REPORTS TOAssistant Superintendent of Foundational Learning
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES- Serves as the instructional leader of the building.
- Fundamental classroom conditions for learning are established, communicated, and implemented. Best practices are aligned with research-based strategies for teaching and learning.
- Maintains an active and positive relationship with students and parents.
- Holds teachers accountable for having high expectations and beliefs for the success of all students.
- Leads the School Improvement Process (SIP) within the school.
- Leads the building as a change agent.
- Works to diminish or close achievement gaps among all demographic groups. Sets learning/achievement goals.
- Supports and builds a culture for social emotional learning for both staff and students.
- Leads and implements professional development according to the SIP. Provides for teacher leadership and development within the school’s professional development and actively engages staff in their learning.
- Ensures that cluster meetings are focused on collaboration of best instructional practices including plans for teacher new learning and student remediation/enrichment.
- Maintains a well-articulated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team that discusses student progress and implements appropriate and successful interventions at all tiers based on collected data.
- Implements a culture of utilizing formative assessments to guide instruction, differentiation, and interventions.
- Designs curricular teams, class assignments and schedules to maximize student learning.
- Oversees all testing programs. (District and statewide)
- Promotes school wide character-building initiatives.
- Monitors instruction and learning throughout the building through classroom visitations, teacher goal setting, and continued conversations with teachers in developing their professional growth plans.
- Leads and supports district-wide curriculum initiatives at the building level.
- Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum at the district level.
- Implements and follows the HSE adopted teacher evaluation process.
- Responsible for delegating duties to and evaluating the building assistant principal.
- Supervises all non-certified personnel in the school.
- Leads in recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning, and evaluating all staff. Provides initial and ongoing support for new staff members.
- Prepares and submits the school’s budgetary requests and monitors expenditures of district and school funds, along with the treasurer.
- Leads and facilitates building level discussion with the teacher’s association.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary, according to due process.
- Develops and maintains an effective building level communication plan with all staff.
- Maintains a safe building environment and implements all corporation wide safe schools’ policies and initiatives.
- Oversees the maintenance of the school building and determines current and future needs.
- Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
- Serves as an ex-officio member of all building level committees.
- Establishes and fosters a strong working relationship with the building’s Parent Teacher Organization.
- Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development.
- Serves as a member of committees and attends meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Nurture a positive relationship with super-ordinates, subordinates, and peers.
- Demonstrate respect for super-ordinates, subordinates, and peers.
- Support corporation decisions and direction relative to matters of policy and administrative directives. Work as a team player.
- Demonstrate ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner.
- Address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner.
- Engages professionally in difficult conversations in order to maintain and protect the vision of the school.
