Job SummaryThis is a paid position. The Student Councilor for the Youth Theater program plays a vital role in fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all participants. The position involves collaborating with theater directors and staff to support the artistic vision of productions, mentoring theater students, monitoring them when they are not rehearsing, facilitating discussions, and helping with side workshops or specific skills directed by the production director.
The Student Councilor will also help promote events and encourage participation. Ideal candidates should possess strong leadership skills, a passion for the performing arts, and a commitment to creating a supportive community where creativity and self-expression can thrive.
- Engage theater students.
- Monitor theater students and assist the program director as needed.
- Assist director with scene run-throughs, basic theater skills, line rehearsal, and other side workshops.
- Chaperone students inside the facility as needed.
- Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that promotes student engagement and growth.
- Determining student goals and objectives, and discussing lesson details with them.
- Structuring individual lessons based on client preferences and goals.
- Providing students with appropriate materials and resources.
- Showing up on time for scheduled practice sessions, recitals, competitions, and other events.
- Teaching music theory, helping students sharpen their sight-reading, memorization, improvising techniques, or other student-defined goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in music, music education, or related field.
- Availability to teach at least 8 hours per week; two evenings a week minimum, but more preferred; core hours 4pm to 8pm.
- Strong musical ability, as well as proven skills with your instrument.
- Previous experience as a music teacher preferred.
- Strong motivational skills.
- Previous experience as a music teacher preferred.
- Fluent sight-reading.
- Patience, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to teach online/virtual lessons.
