Part Time Student Substitute Teacher

* Contingent on University Guidelines

Qualifications:

30+ college credits or the international equivalent (Para Pathways Exam can be taken in lieu of), Indiana Sub permit or valid Indiana teaching license. Must be able to read and follow teacher prepared lesson plans and able to write detailed notes about the day. Must be able to speak and understand English when leading a class. Kind, flexible and able to maintain classroom control.

Receptive to coaching and feedback from other staff and building administrators. Able to build rapport with students and staff. Must speak and act in a respectful, acceptable and safe manner. Detail oriented in following directions and maintaining student safety. Is patient and kind in all student/adult interactions. Your current approved HSE Background employment/student teacher check is valid for this position.

Reports to:

Building and District Substitute Coordinators

Full Time substitute openings may also be available. Report each day to home building; may be moved sometimes for district coverage. Optional benefits package is available; life, vision, dental and health insurance. HSE match to Indiana Teachers' retirement. Paid sick and personal day(s).

Performance Responsibilities:

Reports to the building sub coordinator upon arrival at the school building. Subs arrive 30 minutes before students.

Review with the building sub coordinator all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.

Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.

Accurately take and report attendance as directed, via paper or Skyward.

Teach the lesson outlined and described in the lesson plan prepared by the absent teacher or provided by building staff. Follow the sub plans!

Consult as appropriate, with the building sub coordinator, before initiating any teacher or other procedures not specified in the lesson plan and substitute teacher information prepared by the absent teacher.

Assume responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods. Know where every student is at all times.

If subbing in elementary, safely and accurately follow dismissal procedures and ensure every student returns home as designated.

Leave detailed notes about the day, plans and students in writing or email.

Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

Maintain the confidentiality of the position.

No earbuds allowed in the classroom when students are present; must be fully engaged at all times

No personal cell phone usage allowed when students are present; must be fully engaged at all times

Must cancel prior to 6 AM when possible; let district sub coordinator and/or building know if going to be late or unable to report to work
