GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer to work within our Indiana Transportation Team. The successful candidate will be a hard‑working individual who enjoys a challenging, fast‑paced, and team‑oriented environment. This role involves working on projects for INDOT and local municipal and county clients across Indiana, with collaboration opportunities across neighboring states.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, calculate, and produce specifications for transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO and INDOT standards.
  • Collaborate with professionals across disciplines to discuss project challenges and engineering solutions.
  • Work as part of a team or manage tasks within project budget and schedule constraints.
  • Assist Project Managers in preparing scope and fee proposals and Letter‑of‑Interest proposals.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the project team to ensure quality services.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with quality control standards and client requirements.
  • Participate in occasional site visits and remote outdoor work environments.
  • Travel to client meetings and site visits as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (Master of Science in Structures preferred).
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Indiana.
  • Minimum 4 years of engineering or technical experience.
  • Strong team collaboration, oral and written communication, design expertise, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with INDOT standards, specifications, design manuals, and deliverables for federally funded projects.
  • Experience delivering projects for local municipalities and counties.
  • Proficiency in bridge design programs (e.g., LEAP Concrete, MDX, Midas, AASHTOWare) and CADD/Microstation.
  • Experience in bridge inspection or desire to participate in bridge inspection services.

  • Acquires general knowledge of related fields and works on multidisciplinary teams.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Occasionally design portions of a project, system, component, or process.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Conduct analyses, design, and interpret test data.
Project and Task Management
  • Occasionally assign tasks to other technical and non‑technical staff.
  • Occasionally plan and coordinate detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Prepare scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assist with proposals to provide professional services or secure funding.
Management Responsibility
  • Receive general direction on key objectives; manage unconventional/complex problems with guidance.
  • Mentor junior staff by providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
  • Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments.
Communication Skills
  • Communicate effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
