GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking an experienced Roadway Project Engineer to work within our Indiana Transportation Team. The successful candidate will be a hard‑working individual who enjoys a challenging, fast‑paced, and team‑oriented environment. This position is eligible for GAI’s flexible hybrid work schedules.
Job Duties- Roadway design for INDOT and local public agency clients
- Create and review project design calculations, quantities takeoffs, specifications, plans and contract documents
- Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work
- Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments
- Conduct analysis and select appropriate applications
- Work within project schedules and budgets
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to junior engineers
- Participate in occasional site visits and client meetings
- Utilize roadway design CADD software (e.g., Open Roads)
- Apply thorough knowledge of current engineering principles and practices
- Resolve complex issues and recommend new practices
- Lead projects of moderate to major scope
- Analyze ethical dilemmas and determine appropriate courses of action
- 14+ years of experience in roadway design for INDOT and local public agencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field)
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Indiana (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Valid driver's license
- Serve as technical advisor for advanced concepts and methods in roadway design
- Recommend changes in programs based on new developments
- Develop new techniques, processes, or materials
- Assess sustainable performance from a systems perspective
- Oversee a team of engineers and technicians
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate activities for multiple major projects
- Analyze project management plans and use risk management principles
- Review operational procedures for compliance
- Provide management, supervision, and guidance to staff
- Mentor senior staff when required
- Encourage creativity, flexibility, and reliability in team members
- Apply formal strategic and persuasive communication principles
- Represent the specialty area within the organization and liaise with clients, officials, and contractors
