Seeking a Civil Engineer with 5+ years of experience in site development, grading, drainage, utilities, and AutoCAD Civil 3D

About the Role


We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to support our development and construction teams through site evaluation, civil design review, permitting, and project coordination. This position will collaborate with internal teams, external engineering consultants, contractors, and local authorities to ensure projects are designed efficiently, meet regulatory requirements, and are delivered successfully.
Key Responsibilities

Site Development & Feasibility Review
  • Evaluate site conditions including topography, soil, environmental factors, traffic considerations, utilities, and other development constraints.
  • Review surveys, title documents, easements, rights-of-way, floodplain requirements, setbacks, and zoning restrictions.
  • Provide recommendations for preliminary site layouts, grading concepts, utility plans, and risk mitigation strategies.
Civil Design & Engineering Coordination
  • Review civil engineering plans prepared by third-party consultants to ensure accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project objectives.
  • Evaluate designs related to roads, sidewalks, water systems, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and site infrastructure.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering, cost savings, and improved project efficiency.
Grading, Drainage & Site Layout
  • Review grading plans and building pad layouts to ensure proper drainage, accessibility, and site functionality.
  • Assist with retaining wall evaluations and coordinate solutions with structural engineering teams when needed.
  • Support designs that balance technical requirements, aesthetics, and long-term performance.
Permitting & Compliance
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants and local authorities to prepare, submit, and expedite project approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and industry standards.
  • Support sustainable design practices and environmentally responsible development initiatives.
Construction Support & Project Coordination
  • Perform site visits to verify construction progress, confirm design implementation, and assist with resolving field issues.
  • Collaborate with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to maintain project schedules and quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout the development and construction process.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of civil engineering experience , preferably in land development or site design.
  • Experience in civil/site development, grading, utilities, drainage, and construction coordination , with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with grading, drainage, utilities, and infrastructure design.
  • Knowledge of multifamily development, zoning regulations, permitting, and construction standards.
  • Strong understanding of site planning and development processes.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external project teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management abilities.
  • Experience with contract negotiations is preferred.
  • Experience with LIHTC affordable housing projects is highly preferred.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for project inspections and related activities.
Work Environment
  • Full-time, office-based role located in Fishers, IN.
  • Works closely with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Requires occasional travel to active construction sites, including possible overnight stays.
  • Exposure to construction site conditions while following applicable safety procedures.
