- Lead and oversee a variety of land surveying projects from planning through final deliverables, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
- Serve as the Professional Land Surveyor of Record, reviewing and certifying survey documents in accordance with applicable state laws and professional standards.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to office and field staff, fostering a culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Review and interpret deeds, plats, title commitments, easements, legal descriptions, and other property records to support boundary determinations.
- Oversee the preparation and review of survey deliverables, including boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, plats, legal descriptions, and as-built surveys.
- Collaborate with clients, engineers, project managers, contractors, and public agencies to ensure successful project execution and exceptional client service.
- Support project planning by assisting with scopes of work, budgets, schedules, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Mentor and develop survey professionals by sharing technical knowledge, providing coaching, and promoting professional growth.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, implement new technologies, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Support business development efforts by building client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and representing SAM within the industry.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed to support the continued growth and success of the surveying practice.
- Provide QA/QC review of final project deliverables.
- Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, or another western state. Candidates with the ability to obtain reciprocal licensure are highly encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated experience leading land surveying projects and coordinating office and field teams.
- Strong knowledge of boundary law, survey principles, legal descriptions, plats, and applicable surveying standards.
- Experience with one or more of the following: boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, topographic surveys, route surveys, construction staking, utility surveys, transportation, land development, or public infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other surveying software; experience with Trimble Business Center, Micro Station, GIS, LiDAR, or reality capture technologies is a plus.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor technical staff and contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and client relationships is preferred.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a commitment to technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to support projects, clients, or business development activities as needed.
