We are looking for a Bridge Design Engineer, EI to join our Indiana Bridge Team. As a part of the team, the candidate will learn directly from a team of veteran bridge engineers while gaining exposure to unique projects. The candidate will have the opportunity to jump right into a variety of projects for INDOT and Local Government clients across the state of Indiana.
In addition to Indiana projects, this candidate will also have the opportunity to assist other surrounding states including Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. This position is based out of the Fishers, Indiana office.
- Design bridges and other transportation structures while working closely with a professional engineer.
- Typical duties include engineering designs and analyses to size structure components and connections; geometric layout of structures; development of bid package documents including quantity and cost estimates; construction plan development; and assembling of construction specifications.
- Participate in technical and feasibility studies by developing an understanding of appropriate specifications, standards, and design criteria.
- Serve as a field inspector on NBIS inspection teams
- Pursue professional development including working toward a professional engineering license.
- Collaborate with engineering professionals from various departments and disciplines to meet client needs.
- Use computer engineering programs and CAD to develop detailed designs.
- Receive and respond to coaching and mentoring by higher-level staff.
- Occasional seasonal travel for bridge inspection with overnight stays.
- Learn or utilize an existing understanding of INDOT standard specifications to prepare contract documents and project quantity computations.
- Exhibit a proficiency with spreadsheets by utilizing existing design tools and/or creating new tools to accomplish project design tasks.
- Manage time effectively to accomplish tasks with proactive communication between the candidate and their supervisor.
- Acquires fundamental knowledge and develops skills in a specific practice area through mentored experience.
- Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment.

- B.S. or M.S. Engineering
- Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and obtained engineer-in-training (EIT) or engineering-intern (EI) certification.
- Performs design tasks.
- Assists on tasks such as: field activities, CAD work, permit applications, and report writing.
- Responsible for personal task management.
- Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
